Virtual Computer Showcases NxTop® Desktop Virtualization Suite at Microsoft Management Summit

NxTop platform works in concert with Microsoft management solutions to make
managing thousands of PCs as easy as managing one

Westford, Mass. – March 22, 2011 — Virtual Computer, a leader in desktop virtualization, today announced it is demonstrating its NxTop® desktop virtualization platform working in concert with Microsoft management solutions in Booth 117 at the Microsoft Management Summit 2011. The event is taking place in Las Vegas from March 21-25, 2011. In addition to viewing the NxTop solution in action, event attendees have the opportunity to win an Xbox 360 Kinect™ gaming system by visiting the Virtual Computer booth.
NxTop combines a centralized management system with an enhanced Xen™-based client hypervisor to create a single, cost-effective platform for any combination of local desktops, remote VDI sessions, and server- and cloud-based applications, significantly reducing desktop operating costs without compromising mobility, user experience, or current PC investments.

The combination of NxTop with Microsoft’s management solutions delivers a low-maintenance, easy-to-manage solution for deploying and provisioning operating systems and applications. Examples include using NxTop in conjunction with App-V to deliver both standard and one-off applications, building Forefront Security into shared “golden” images, and using SCCM task manager to rapidly build golden images that NxTop can publish to thousands of virtualized desktops.

To illustrate, the following provides an example of App-V and NxTop working in concert. A company may have multiple applications that need to tie into a common version of Microsoft Office. Instead of sequencing Office in multiple virtual applications, it can be installed into the central NxTop Windows instance. As the virtual Windows image is deployed or updated, the Office version will be local and available to other virtualized applications that interact with Office. In addition, App-V can deliver one-off applications that IT does not wish to build into any standard centralized images.
