NxTop 2.0: Taking Client Virtualization Mainstream

This morning, we were pleased to announce NxTop 2.0, further extending Virtual Computer’s lead in client-side desktop virtualization. While we have released several updates to NxTop since our 1.0 release early last year, 2.0 is significant for us for several key reasons:

1. It’s the first “bare-metal” client virtualization product that is ready for mainstream adoption.

nxtop_laptop_200x200 Getting a bare-metal hypervisor to install on PC and execute one or more virtual machines is not very difficult. We are been doing that since the early days of 2008. The difficultly is moving from there to a point where you can:

Use a client hypervisor to deliver the type of game-changing management capabilities that provide a compelling reason to move to desktop virtualization.
Give end-users reasons to embrace desktop virtualization rather than view it as something that provides benefits to IT at the expense of user experience and mobility.
Create a deployment model that is dead simple and has no dependency on other legacy products and consoles.
Give IT teams the comfort that you have an end-to-end system with enterprise-class maturity, stability, and scalability.
Run on enough PC platforms to matter.

We are the only company that has accomplished this.

2. It came from our customers.

With the NxTop 1.x release, we were largely delivering a vision that originated with us but was validated by discussions with hundreds of IT professionals. With NxTop 2.0, our early customers took over the driver’s seat in taking us from really intriguing product to something they would be willing to deploy at scale. “The devil is in the details” as they say, and at a time when potential competitors are still scraping together their table stakes, we are already holding a winning hand with NxTop 2.0 thanks to all of the feedback from real live users that we were able to address.

3. It’s a “statement release” for our company.

If you have been following college basketball’s “March Madness” over the past week or so, you are familiar with the concept of a “statement game” in sports. A team that everyone underestimates rises to the occasion and shows everyone what they are made of. We feel like we are in a similar situation. Large competitors with deep pockets and captive customers have announced plans to jump into the client virtualization. Many are ready to name the winners in client virtualization before the game starts. However, there is a reason the games are played, and NxTop 2.0 is the release we are bringing to the big dance. (So far, we just happen to be dancing by ourselves…)
