NxTop Radio: Workstation Consolidation with Southwestern Computer
Interest in bare-metal client hypervisor technology has never been higher. With the recent release of the Citrix XenClient preview at Citrix Synergy 2010, an unprecedented number of IT professionals are investigating, testing, and sharing their thoughts on client hypervisors. While excitement is very high, many are wondering when client hypervisor technology will be mature enough for production use. My answer: it's already there.
I am pleased to bring you the first episode of our NxTop Radio podcast series, where will put the spotlight on NxTop users who have taken bare-metal client hypervisor technology beyond the test lab to real end-users. In Episode 1, Clive Bearman speaks with Clint DeWitt of Southwestern Computer. Clint has one of the more interesting client virtualization use cases I have seen: workstation consolidation.
Clint manages the IT infrastructure for an association that has access to state government systems for processing new car titles and registrations on behalf of auto dealers. Due to the government agency's security requirements, in the past this meant two PCs under every desk. With NxTop, Clint consolidated the environment to a single PC per user, dramatically reducing hardware and management costs while remaining in compliance with the state agency's stringent security requirements.
