2011 was a great year for Virtual Computer and our partners, with many customers now experiencing the true power of Intelligent Desktop Virtualization through their NxTop deployments.
Here are just a few examples of the tremendous impact NxTop has had on our customers’ business, IT operations and user satisfaction:
A US hospital deploys their entire PC infrastructure in 1 ½ days vs 45 days previously and opens up for business for an additional month in the opening year
A European utility...

Does the VDI model—which, by the way, is only one approach to desktop virtualization—conjure the mainframe days, less the line printers? In the world of business and information technology, the 1980s marked a dramatic shift in computational intelligence—from million dollar mainframes inside data centers, to thousand dollar computers on employee desks. The change empowered workers and spawned new industries.
The PC genie has been out of the bottle for 30 years, and VDI vendors are trying to cram...

While it's true that IDV certainly flips the letters around in VDI, it's not just VDI backwards. There's a whole lot more to it than that. The biggest difference between IDV and VDI is that while VDI requires both centralized management and centralized execution, IDV offers the benefits of centralized management while harnessing the power of local execution.
IDV provides IT with the ability to control and secure desktop images and devices while ensuring users enjoy high-performance...

In a recent independent survey (conducted by Intel) of over 200 IT professionals at companies with at least 100 employees, Virtual Computer was confirmed to be the leader in Intelligent Desktop Virtualization.
Virtual Computer was the only company focused on Intelligent Desktop Virtualization to be listed in the top 4. The other players (i.e., Microsoft, VMware, and Citrix) each have market capitalizations exceeding $10 billion, and while Virtual Computer is not as large, the strength of its...

What Virtual Computer does is hard - really hard. Even Brian Madden said so after coming out of conversations with both VMware and Citrix about how hard it is to build a true type-1 client hypervisor that runs across a wide variety of PC hardware. Just a few examples of the awards Virtual Computer has accumulated includes The Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award, VMworld Award for Desktop Virtualization, Citrix Best of Synergy, InformationWeek Startup 50, and Red Herring Global 100...

Many companies are excited to hear about the benefits of desktop virtualization but quickly become disillusioned when they hear about the complexity of VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure). Unfortunately, there has been a lot of confusion about desktop virtualization and many companies equate VDI with desktop virtualization.
Just because VDI has a lot of challenges, doesn't mean that desktop virtualization is hard. In fact, Intelligent Desktop Virtualization (IDV), is a different...

With nearly 300 million desktop and laptop PCs sold this year—and Forrester Research predicting that more than 2 billion PCs will be in use worldwide by 2015—have we truly entered the post-PC era? Watch this short video from Dan McCall, President and CEO of Virtual Computer, Inc., for his rebuttal to this oft quoted notion...

Intelligent desktop virtualization (IDV), a phrase coined by Intel, is gaining momentum in the IT industry and for good reason. Compared to VDI, it's faster, easier and considerably less costly to deploy – and it provides a much better experience for desktop and laptop users alike. While the two acronyms are similar, their approaches are fundamentally different. Watch this short video from Dan McCall, President and CEO of Virtual Computer, Inc., to learn the key differences between VDI and...

VDI
If you're looking at implementing server-hosted VDI, or are already down the path, then you've surely thought a bit - probably quite a bit - about the network. But there's more to it than planning for network bandwidth requirements. Here are a few hidden network challenges that are very tough to predict when you're looking at rolling out VDI:
Hidden chokepoints that only become apparent when stressed
Spikes in network traffic that are hard-to-predict before full rollout...
