Recently deployed a few new systems and each one required that windows be reactivated. I was wondering if there was a way around having to reactivate each system when it is deployed using MAKs.

Hello Bryan,

as for my knowledge there is no way to preserve a windows 7 MAK activation from the master image to the deployed VMs. But the new MAK activation on the deployed clients will be preserved across reboots by default for shared or custom VMs.

If you have more than 25 clients you could use KMS activation. Of course you'll need a volume license key for that.

Hello Bryan,

Sascha is correct. When you deploy a MAK key from the NxTop center VM down to the engine's, there is a hardware change threshold that changes to the point where the MAK activation will not preserve. If you activate in the engine 1 time after the first publish the activation should stick after that.

If a end user needs to move to a new laptop/desktop - you will have to activate that system 1 time again as the hardware has changed enough that the MAK key needs re-activation.

Regards,

Rich

MAK activation should only be used on "custom" one off installations if it is used at all. Shared installs should only use the KMS option.
