While trying to install or do a remote push of Symantec v12.1, I get this error 'Symantec Endpoint Protection cannot installed to a path including a reparse point' and I was wondering if anyone found a way around this so I can install SEP on my nxtop systems.
Hi Bryan,
We've experimented and tested both SEP 11 and 12. The model we've used is to install SEP into the master image VM in NxTop Center. All installs / upgrades to SEP should be in the master image. The master image does not have any reparse points and so SEP installs / upgrades cleanly.
The master image is then published to the clients.
We've left live-update enabled at both the server and clients, so that anti-virus definitions are always being updated. We've yet to encounter any issues with definition upgrades and reparse points.
Were you attempting to install SEP directly into a VM at the client?
Regards,
Mark
When you say 'updating SEP' are you talking about virus definition updates or new versions of the SEP package?
The former will be properly applied to the VM running on the end system and saved across reboots assuming you have enabled the appropriate OS policy for the VM.
For updates to the s/w itself, those should be pushed out by updating the master image for shared VMs (so you control exactly what version of SEP is being used on the end systems). If you are using a custom VM then it would have to be updated at each end system running the VM (that's the point of custom VMs -- once deployed they are never updated from the master image).
