A Smarter Approach to VDI

Benefits of Desktop Virtualization

Desktop Virtualization offers many benefits including manageabilitysecurity, resiliency, and data protection, but not all approaches to desktop virtualization are the same...

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - VDI

  • No major infrastructure investments
  • Low operating costs
  • Great performance on or off LAN
  • Consistent support for peripherals
  • Simple deployment & operations
  • Seamless online or offline use

  • Major infrastructure investments
  • Increased operating costs for infrastructure
  • Reduced performance, especially off the LAN
  • Inconsistent support for peripherals
  • Greater complexity and more moving parts
  • Mobility challenges for laptop users

Reduced Costs

NxTop reduces infrastructure costs by over 90% compared to server-hosted VDI:

Server-hosted VDI requires significant investment in servers, storage, and networking because the desktop workload must be run on the servers and then communicated to the user over the network. With NxTop the virtualized workload runs on the client, and only the management functions are performed on the server, so a single management server can support over 1000 end-points.

Centralized Management

NxTop provides a central management console that lets IT teams provision and managed PCs on a one-to-many basis. This means that an IT professional can update an operating system image once and then publish it to thousands of users in a single click. This same simple approach is used to roll out new operating systems, new applications, updates, and even patches.

Only the changes are moved over the network, so if the update only includes a small patch, than only that small amount of data is transmitted over the network. And if IT decides to rollback a patch, it’s just one click to roll it back as well.

It also includes an integrated helpdesk so that IT can offer remote assistance on any issue, and this is done at the hypervisor level, so even if the operating system has a problem, the IT professional can help without making a desk visit.

Security & Data Protection

NxTop offers AES-256 full disk encryption to protect the data on the end user devices. AES-256 encryption is so strong it’s approved by the US Government and the National Security Administration to protect the highest level of classified top secret data.

Even if one of your devices gets lost or stolen, your data is not lost because it’s fully encrypted. As an additional safety measure against lost and stolen, PCs can be set to lock themselves out if they do not check into the central server within a certain amount of time, and remote kill can be used to instruct the machine to perform a 7-layer disk wipe confirming to US Department of Defense specifications.

Transparent data backup capabilities protect user data by backing it up without interrupting the user. In case of PC loss, the user can quickly migrate to a new PC and be working again within minutes.

User Productivity

NxTop offers a range of productivity enhancing capabilities from quick boot to personalization of workspaces to rapid recovery from PC issues. Users can quickly boot their PCs for instant access to the web or cloud services.

They can completely personalize their desktops and their PCs to suit the way they work best. If they need to install their own applications, they can do it in a secure environment totally isolated from their corporate desktop.

If they accidentally download a virus they can recover just by rebooting, and if they lose a laptop they can get a new one with all their applications, data, and user preferences completely restored within minutes.
