Workbench: Backup Analysis
Use the Analyze Backup tool on the Workbench to examine backups for a user's NxTop. The Analyze Backup tool compares two selected backups and reports about:
- Size difference
- Files added, updated or deleted since the older backup
The analysis is run as a background task. The report detail is stored in a CSV file compressed in zip format. Workbench maintains only the last report; if you want multiple reports for a series of backups, run one report, then store it locally before running the next report.
Before using the Analyze backup tool, the user NxTop must be added to the Workbench as a project. See Workbench for more information.
Analyze a User NxTop's backup

Step One
Open the Workbench > Projects branch of the navigation tree, then select the user Nxtop.
Step Two
Click the Analyze Backups action.
The Analyze Backups section pop-up appears. This lists the date, size and who performed the backup.

Step Three
Select the two backups you want to compare by filling the checkbox. You can select backups on separate pages if the list of backup is longer than a single page. When you select a date it is displayed in the Compare fields.
The backups selected are displayed at the top. If you select a third (without unselecting a date), one of previous selections is replaced:
| If the third date is | Workbench replaces |
|---|---|
| More recent than either date | the most recent date with the selection |
| between the two dates | the earlier date with the selection |
| less recent than either date | the earlier date with the selection |
Step Four
When you have selected the dates you want, click Finish
.
The analysis is performed as a background task. You can track its progress in the Task panel.
Step Five
When the analysis is complete, you can view it from the Summary tab for the Workbench project. A summary of the report and a link to the report file is displayed.

Step Six
Click on the link at the bottom of the summary to download the detail results file, a CSV compressed into zip format. The file name includes the NxTop and user names and the time (hh_mm_ss) of the analysis. You are prompted for:
- the NxTop Center administrator username and password.
- where to save the file (standard file location pop-up).
The results file lists the specific changed, added, and deleted files individually, including their size (for added or changed files; deleted files are listed as size 0).
