Cloning a Virtual Machine
Copy an existing virtual machine (VM) using the Clone action. The Clone action creates a full clone, that is, the resulting clone is an independent, separate virtual machine. The source virtual machine is the parent of the clone.
This copy can then be modified. For example, if you wanted to add a finance application for the Accounting Department.
- Clone the standard VM
- Add the extra application to the clone
- Assign it to users in the accounting department
You can also use the Clone action to:
- Quickly make a custom copy of a shared VM.
- Make a copy of a VM and change the size of its disks.
- Compress a version chain into a single version. More Detail
| If the clone is to be a custom VM, and the parent has an assigned OS Profile policy, unassign the OS Profile policy before using the Clone action, then reassign the policy. Do not create a cloned custom VM with an OS Profile policy assigned. |
