Creating Groups and Users
Individual users can be organized into Groups to ease the handling of large numbers of users. If a virtual machine (VM), policy or virtualized application is assigned to the group, it is assigned to each member of the group as if it had been assigned to each user in that group individually.
If your organization uses an Active Directory (AD) for user identification, the AD organization can be imported into NxTop Center and used to recognize your existing users in their organizational units. See Configuring NxTop Center for Active Directory for details.
Users and Groups, if created on the NxTop Center, are local, as opposed to imported from Active Directory.
- Local users and groups have an orange icon:

- Active Directory users and groups have a blue icon:

This section describes creating local users and groups. See Configuring NxTop Center for Active Directory for details.

Step One
Create a Local User
Click Groups and Users in the navigation panel.
Step Two
Create a Local User
Click the Create Local User action.
Step Three
Create a Local User
Enter information about the user and click Finish:
- Username
- Full name
- Password
The username appears in the user tree.
Step Four
Create a Local User
To assign the user to a Group, click on the Groups tab for that user and select one or more groups for that user.
Next, we'll create a local group.
Step Five
Create a Local Group
Groups allow users to be managed more efficiently than as individuals. A VM assigned to a group is assigned to all members of that group, rather than needing to be assigned to each member one at a time.
To create a local group (an organizational grouping available on the server), click Groups and Users on the navigation panel.
Step Six
Create a Local Group
Click the Create Local Group action.
Step Seven
Create a Local Group
Enter the Name and Description of the group, then click Finish.
The group appears in the Groups navigation tree. Local users can be assigned to the group.
Step Eight
Create a Local Group
To add members to a Group, click Modify, then:
- Fill the check box for each user to assign to the group.
- Clear the check box for users to remove from the group.
Step Nine
Create a Local Group
Click Save to save the updated group membership.
The users are now members of the group. VMs assigned to the group are available to members of the group.
That's it! You can now create additional local users and groups.
