Deleting a Backup
The NxTop Administrator can manually delete one or more backups. NxTop Center stores backups for each user's virtual machine (VM). To see a list of backups for a specific user's VM, see steps 1 and 2 below.
Deleting a backup does not destroy data; deleting a backup merges all of the differencing disk files that make up that backup into the VM base backup. Physically, the differencing disk file is merged with the base backup file, and the differencing disk file is deleted from the repository. See Backup and Restore for more information.
You may want to delete one or more backups to:
- save space on the server
- compress the number of differencing disks sent for restoration or migration
To delete a user's backup:

Step One
Open Groups and Users > Users on the navigation panel, then select the user.
Under the user is a list of VMs assigned to the user.
Step Two
Select the VM and click the Backups tab.
The list of backups for that VM appears.
Step Three
Click the Delete Backups action. The Delete Backups pop-up appears. It lists each backup (restorable point) for that user's VM, the size of the differencing disk added for that backup (Backup Size) and the total size of the all the differencing disks that make up that backup (Total Size).

Step Four
Fill the checkbox of the backup you want to delete.
That backup and those dated earlier are selected. A backup is composed of the base file and all of the differencing disks between the backup date and the base backup.
Step Five
Click Finish
.
The checked backups are merged in to the next backup most recent backup in the list, and cannot be used afterward as separate restore points. The backup panel is updated.
