Expanding a Virtual Machine System Disk
You can increase the size of the system disk (C: drive) on a virtual machine (VM) if it seems to be in danger of running out of storage space. Avoid running out of space by using the Expand action. If you expand the system disk, you need to publish the VM to distribute the larger size to users.
Expanding the system disk is performed at the VM level, not at the user or group level. All individual instances of a custom or shared VM will have the same size system disk.
You can expand a custom VM, but that only increases the size of the disk for the next version of the VM before it is assigned users; a currently used custom VM cannot be expanded.
| Notes: | You cannot shrink the size of the system disk. This operation is not reversible. |
Expanding the System Disk of a Virtual Machine

Step One
Click on Virtual Machines in the navigation panel, then select the VM to expand.
Step Two
Click the Expand action.
The Expand Virtual Machine pop-up appears.
Step Three
Enter the new size in MB for the system disk. This must be at least 32 MB larger than the current size.
Step Four
Click Finish.
The expansion may take several minutes and runs as a background task.
Step Five
After the expansion, Start the VM in the Console tab to allow the larger disk size to be discovered, and then shutdown the VM, either through the Start Menu or the NxTop Center Shut Down action.
Then Start the VM in the console again to allow it to start with the expanded system disk, then shutdown the VM, either through the Start Menu or the NxTop Center Shut Down action.
Step Six
Publish the VM to distribute the larger disk to the assigned users.
The VM with the expanded system disk is downloaded to assigned users when their computer next contacts NxTop Center.
