Modifying the Hostname for a Virtual Machine
When a virtual machine (VM) is assigned to a user, during the loading process, it is assigned a unique hostname. The hostname is based on the computer name template in use - either the default one or a custom template, and uses elements (such as username and a random number) designed to ensure that it is unique on your network.
You can modify this hostname using the steps below. When you modify a hostname manually, NxTop Center checks the modified name against its database to ensure that the new name is unique; if it is not, the name is not accepted and you may enter another hostname.
| Warning: | NxTop Center can check its database of hostnames assigned to other VMs, but cannot check against non-VM hostnames. |
Updating the Hostname of a User’s Virtual Machine

Step One
Select Users and Groups > Users in the navigation panel and select the User with the VM to be changed.
Step Two
Select the user's VM to be changed and click the Modify action.
Step Three
The Summary page displays information about that user's VM, including hostname and MAC address.
Enter the new hostname.
Step Four
Click Save.
Repeat steps 1-4 for each user's VM hostname that you want to change.
Step Five
When you have changed the hostnames for all the VMs you need, Publish the VM for the change to take effect.
The hostname is downloaded with the new version the next time the user's NxTop Engine contacts NxTop Center, and takes effect the next time the user reboots the VM.
