Modifying the Attributes of a Virtual Machine
You can change the definitions of the characteristics of a virtual machine (VM), as if changing the physical characteristics of the computer. These other changes are made using the Modify action in NxTop Center, or the Expand action. These changes include:
- Number of processors - - change the number of processors used
- RAM allocation - change Name or RAM allocated to the VM
- Expand system disk - increase the size of the system disk; see Expand VM System Disk
Once you make one or more of these changes, start the VM in the NxTop Center console to allow the operating system to discover the new presentation of virtual hardware, and to apply the appropriate drivers. Then stop and restart the NxTop to allow it to start with the drivers loaded.
To Modify an existing VM:

Step One
Click Virtual Machines in the navigation panel and select the VM to be changed.
Step Two
- Click the Modify action to change the name, description, number of processors, or RAM allocation.
The console goes into Modify mode. The VM must be stopped to use Modify.
- Click the Expand action to change the size of the system disk.
Step Three
Click the Summary tab and enter the new value(s) for the VM.

Step Four
Click the Save button
to save the changes to the VM.
Step Five
Start the VM in NxTop Center.
Click the Console tab.
During startup, the operating system discovers the changes made, and applies any required drivers.
Step Six
Shut down the VM, and then restart it, so it can start with the updated drivers loaded.
If needed, perform any additional updates to the VM at this time.
After any updates, shut down the VM again.
Step Seven
Publish the VM. Create a deployable version to propagate the chances automatically for a shared VM.
The new version of the VM is listed in the navigation panel. When an assigned user's computer contacts NxTop Center, the new version is downloaded, prepared, and then is used when that VM is rebooted.
