Modify Behavior of a Virtual Machine
You can make several types of modification to a virtual machine (VM) that do not require republishing. These other changes are made using the Modify action in the NxTop Center interface. These changes include:
- User and group assignments - add or remove assigned users (for VM only)
- Policies - add or change assigned policies (for VM, groups or Users)
- Virtual Applications - add or remove Virtual Applications (for VM, groups or Users)
These changes are made using the Modify action. As these are changes to attributes of the VM, and not the virtual machine itself, the data downloaded (and the time required to download and prepare it) is minimal.
Overrides for Groups and Users
A user or group can have a customized set of policies that override the policies for the base image VM.
The navigation panel lists VMs assigned to a user or group under the group or user name. The summary page for the user or group lists whether they are defined to use the VM's (default) set of virtual applications and policies or a customized set.
- A policy or virtual application assignment from the VM can be overridden by a policy or virtual application assignment at a group level or at a user level.
- A policy or virtual application assignment at a group level can be overridden by a policy or virtual application assignment at a user level.
Virtual Applications and policies (only) can be changed at the group or user level as described below.
To change the update the base image of a VM:

Step Five
If you are changing a policy or Virtual Application selection from a VM default, Group- or User-level override to another option (of these three), you must first select which override you are selecting using the dropdown at the upper right of the main panel:

Step Six
Click the Save button to save the changes to the VM.
When the NxTop Engine on the computer of a user assigned to the VM next contacts NxTop Center, the modified attributes are downloaded by the NxTop Engine as a background task, and used when available. The VM does not need to be published again for these to take effect.
