Registering a Computer

A user is registered to one computer at a time. This ensures that updates to virtual machines (VMs), backups, and other communication between a user and NxTop Center are sent to and from the correct computer.

To register a computer to a user, the user logs in to the NxTop Engine on their computer. The NxTop Engine contacts NxTop Center, which then registers the computer to that user. That user's credentials are expected when that computer contacts NxTop Center, and when the user logs in, he or she is expected to use that computer.

The users must already have an account, with credentials provided either from Active Directory or local users defined within NxTop Center (see Creating Users and Groups).

If a user is already registered to a computer, NxTop center does not accept the login at the new computer. The user receives a message on the NxTop Engine. Unregister the computer first.

If the user (without a registered computer) logs in from a new computer, NxTop Center:

  • downloads the user's assigned VMs and any Virtualized Applications
  • downloads the user's backup data
  • registers the user with the computer
  • unregisters the user from any other computer

NxTop Engine:

  • removes any previous VMs
  • loads and prepares the downloaded VMs and any Virtualized Applications
  • loads the user backups for each downloaded VM as the user disk
