Unregister a Computer
A user is registered to one computer at a time. This ensures that updates to virtual machines (VMs), backups, and other communication between a user and NxTop Center are sent to and from the correct computer. In the event that a computer has been lost, stolen, needs repair, or a user needs to move to another client device, unregistering a computer severs the association between the user and computer, freeing the user to redeploy VMs and data to a new device quickly.
The connection between the user and a computer can be severed by unregistering the computer from the user. This can be performed:
- by the user on the NxTop Engine or
- by the Administrator on NxTop Center
Warning: When a computer is unregistered, it removes the user's VMs and data from that computer. The user's backups are saved on NxTop Center, and can be downloaded onto a different computer.
Verify that a backup has completed and has been uploaded to NxTop Center (see below for steps on how to initiate backups).
User Unregisters from the NxTop Engine
The User can unregister the computer from the NxTop Engine:
Steps
- Stop any VMs running on the computer.
- Open the NxTop Engine control panel and click the Backup tab.
- Highlight each VM, and then click Backup Now to ensure that each VM is currently backed up before unregistering.
Verify that the ‘Last Snapshot Uploaded’ time is updated. Until this entry shows a current time and date, this last backup has not been received by NxTop Center.
If the Last Snapshot Uploaded does not update, click on the Platform tab and click the ‘Update now’ button.
Unregistering before the backups are uploaded could result in the loss of user data. - Click the Platform tab.
- Click the Unregister button.
A warning message appears, reminding you that unregistering will irreversibly remove any information from the computer that has not been backed up.Note: NxTop Center waits for a queued backup to complete before unregistering the user.
- In the text box under the warning, type unregister and click the OK button.
The user is unregistered from that computer.
